Context

After an impressive demonstration at CES 2023, our client wanted to push the boundaries of immersivity in the automotive industry even further.

The goal of the project was to push the immersion boundaries to 100% without taking into account industrial constraints on commercialization in order to validate the value of our development with our client's VP!

To do that, the main task was to control all the technologies available in the vehicle in order to create a unique experience (Screens, lights, seats, audio, massage…). Our client called us in because even within his own company, the project had to remain under wraps. The surprise had to be total.

Missions

This was also the moment for me to spread my wings as Lead UX for this project so my main task was to take charge of the overall demo experience. The first step was to prepare an initial demo for our client to show that we had understood their intentions. After learning how to use Lucielab software to design the light animations, I quickly found myself acting as art director, ensuring the consistency of the content to be produced.

As the true UX value of the project lay in the technological demonstration, my most important task was to coordinate the integration of hardware and software and ensure the consistency of the immersive content.

Realisations

Design of the demo with complete blueprint.

2 translations of the scenography into light animation in the vehicle of a concert of one of the project partners.

1 light animation based on a demo video from a project partner.

Follow-up on the integration of hardware, software, and demonstration content.

Tablet application to allow our client to play the demo and have full control over it.

In order to minimize differences between content production and testing in the vehicle, we reproduced the vehicle's topology on a 1:1 scale at our premises in Sofia Antipolis. _Monitoring hardware integration at the prototyper's.

Challenges

Managing a project from start to finish with a prestigious client, high standards, and numerous suppliers involved.

What I learned

Understanding the internal logic of car manufacturers, the politics and challenges associated with an internal concept car.

Delegating some of my tasks in order to focus on the macro management of the project.

Tools

Workshop

As our client is not French, workshops are particularly important, as they enable us to align achievements, intentions, and projections for the work to be carried out.

Miro

Considering the large number of actors involved in the project, Miro is perfect for sharing progress and preparing upcoming tasks.

Procreate

Creation of light patterns to be integrated into the vehicle.

Figma

Wireframing and final design of the demo control interface.

Illustrator

Vector software for creating vehicle hardware integration plans.

Lucielabs

LED control software. Creation of light animations, LED by LED, frame by frame.
